Santa Clause: The Movie

Another movie I watched for the first time on Christmas Eve with Tori was "Santa Clause: The Movie" which Tori says is her favourite Christmas movie. Personally I did not like it as much. I thought that it was an OK movie and I would watch it again with Tori next year, but it is not one that I would be requesting to watch or wanting to watch on a regular basis.

On Christmas Eve I watched "The Polar Express" with Tori. Even though it was our DVD, and Tori had seen it a few times I had not. It was my first time watching it. I very much enjoyed it. There were lots of funny parts, and it had a sweet ending.

My Samhain 2011 altar

I had to improvise a bit though as I did not have an apple and when I remembered about it the stores were closed and it was too late to go and get one. I had the apple juice instead and used my imagination to visualize the bit with the apple. I think it should be OK as the intent behind the ritual is what counts.

My meeting with the doctor

The day before Samhain (so October 30th) I had a nice day out. Tom Baker (the 4th Doctor in Doctor Who) was at a place near to where we live so I went to see him. He signed an autograph for me and here I am holding it.

And here is a close up of it.

I got to chat with him and shake his hand. There was a raffle to win tea with him but I needed to get home to help Tori with dinner so I did not enter it. We did not know that they would have allowed Kero to go in the building orTori would have met Tom with me.

It was an ok movie, just not as good as they made it out to be. Why do they always give a movie so much hype if they are only going to let you down with the movie?

Hastings week photos

I got this bit of text from the internet about Hastings week:

"14th October (now Hastings Day) was the date in 1066 when King Harold lost the Battle of Hastings. William Duke of Normandy, who was using Hastings as his base, then claimed the crown and changed the way England was governed forever. He also gave us the English language.

In 1966 the 900th anniversary was celebrated and it was such a success that Hastings Borough Council decided to mark the date every year as Hastings Day. I went to try to get photos of the fireworks that happened on the 15th for Tori but did not get them. I did get some photos though. And here they are.

This first photo is some florescent tubes in a stall near to where the fireworks were. I just thought they looked cool.

And these are photos of the procession with torches (they had real flaming torches) that were walking through the town near to the ocean where the firework display was.

They were carrying some guy in a big hat but I do not know for sure why. Tori thinks she saw somewhere when she was looking online for when the fireworks would be that he was winner of the re-enactment of the battle that they did up at the place called Battle (which is where the actual battle for the battle of Hastings happened) but we don't know for sure if that is true or not.

Those are all the photos that I was able to get. Sorry.

I took Tori to see the new Harry Potter movie Friday. She really enjoyed it but I was not quite as impressed with the movie. It was an ok movie. I just think it could have been better. For one thing they changed a lot from the book, and left out some parts from the book that I had hoped to see in the movie. For another thing, well I just think they could have done it better. I did enjoy it. I just did not enjoy it as much as I expected to (or as much as I enjoyed the book).

Last night Owen had one of his storytelling evenings. I have never been to one of them before as I usually stay home with Kero while Tori goes with her Dad. Tori had already heard these stories though so I went this time. I very much enjoyed hearing some of the folk tales of Wales. Was just like being there as the stories were told all those years ago. A well told collection of tales. Thank you Owen. You dont hear tales like those recited where I grew up even though alot of Canadians are descended from the UK so I never heard any of the folklore of Wales before.

On Friday I went to see the new Harry Potter movie with Tori and her brother Wayne, so I thought that I would let you all know what I thought of the movie.

I thought that it was the best of the movies so far. They stuck to the book really well, and didn't make too bad of a job with the parts that they did change. I wont say more than that though as I do not want to spoil the movie for anyone who has not had a chance to see it yet.
